Posture

  • Receive instruction on the 4 steps to sitting correctly:
    Height of your chair.
    Distance from workstation and your keyboard.
    Importance of always keeping your back in contact with your backrest.
    Correct positioning of your lumbar support.
  • Learn the importance of taking breaks.
  • Learn how to adjust your chair, remove fixed arms if they prevent good posture.

DSE

  • Learn about best practice in relation to the screen; keyboard, mouse, document holders and laptop usage.
  • Learn where your screen should be on the desk, at what height and distance from you, learn about minimum point sizes and the importance of alignment.
  • Learn how to keep your keyboard flat on your desk to prevent flexion.
  • Learn about the dangers of mouse misuse, how to use the whole arm and shoulder to move the mouse not the wrist.
  • Learn about the preference for document holders to be between your keyboard and screen.
  • Learn about the dangers of laptops, the benefits of plugging in a separate keyboard and mouse.
  • Learn about the importance of using document holders placed between your screen and keyboard. Chaos Ergonomics Solutions Limited have a range of these document holders imported from the USA and Scandinavia.
  • Learn that document holders are for all of us who refer to documents whilst keying in. Not just for ‘copy typists’.

Musculo-skeletal

  • Learn about the need to take breaks, and how often

Visual

  • Learn about your entitlements.
  • Learn the risks, symptoms, causes and solutions to eye problems at the workstation.
  • Read that computer work does not affect your eye sight per se.
  • Read that Vision Screening is available to bulk test all users at their workstation to see if they need a full eyesight test.

  • Learn about stress, the symptoms causes and solutions.

Exercises
